I hike, I blog

tom's hiking faceTwo-Heel Drive is a blog for hikers, campers, backpackers and nature cravers in Silicon Valley and the San Francisco Bay Area. Need someplace to go? I've hiked all the best Bay Area trails: check out my favorite hikes or read the park profiles I wrote for the San Jose Mercury News.

Cool socks report

Rick at HikeHalfdome.com writes up some very nifty hiking socks from Northern Ireland that are cut for right and left feet. Wool-synthetic blend with anti-bacterial treatment. Nice.

(Field sobriety test for next wine-soaked overnighter: can you tell which feet your socks go on?)

More on these socks at the company’s Web site.

Hey, Mang, ever done any ray-port-age on barefoot hiking?

Not that I recall … hiking w/out shoes and socks takes getting back to nature a bit far for my blood, though I have nothing against those who do it.
