I hike, I blog

Now blogging from North Carolina's Triad (Greensboro/Winston-Salem/Highpoint) and hiking the trails as I find them.

All New: Map page for my North Carolina hikes

Most of the content here reflects five years worth of hikes in the San Francisco Bay Area. I've created a Guide to Bay Area Hikes for those who are looking for nice dirt paths to trod in Northern California.

Hunting up some gear discounts

June 23rd, 2009

The folks at Avantlink.com have a nifty tool allowing me to sift big discounts from the catalogs of the online retail giants. So far I have deal scans set up for REI and Backcountry.

Tweaking the templates to match my layout is the biggest hassle, but I’ve got that out of the way so it’ll be a breeze to set up even more of these, scanning for markdowns by brand, product categories and so forth.

Edit: See how easy it is? I’ve already got a page scanning for half-off deals at Backcountryoutlet.com.

Here’s another nifty ditty: an RSS feed of Backcountry.com’s Camping/Hiking category. Subscribe to the feed and you’ll get updates when the newest deals crop up. Here’s another scanning for discounts on Go Lite gear at altrec.com.
