A few more deal scans
July 3rd, 2009My track record is impressive: in two weeks nobody’s bought into any of the cool gear deal scans I made up. Doesn’t bug me a bit: I have more fun setting them up than I’ll ever get from the nickels and dimes they’ll send my way. Yes, being a blogger makes people strange. Anyway, If you’re curious:
- 40% markdowns at Backcountry.com. Backcountry must have warehouses the size of Montana, which means the scans always yield tons of tempting stuff.
- 30% North Face markdowns: I made this to spite all the snobs who are always hating on North Face. See, my reasoning is always lock solid.
- 30% Marmot markdowns: I’ve never had any gripes with Marmot gear, so I figure anybody’d appreciate a chance to comb through their bargain bin.
- 20% off backpacks at REI. Selection’s a little thin, seeing as how we’re in prime backpack-wearing season.
- 20% off backpacks at Backcountry.com: Tons and tons to choose from here.
If I’m not blogging for hours or days it probably means I’m playing with these deal scan thingies and/or trying to drum up a few customers on my Twitter feed (another fun/hopeless cause). Now that I have the main categories — shoes, packs, gadgets — covered, I’ll probably set out in search of new amusements.
I know everybody likes to help out, so here’s something you can do for me that won’t cost a dime: if you see something even mildly interesting, click the “buy now” link — this takes you to the store selling it, and sets a cookie in your browser that stays there for anywhere from 30 days (REI) to 120 days (Backcountry.) If you buy something with that browser before the cookie expires, I still get a commission.
Of course this risks tempting me to continue this behavior, and I know you’ve all had my best interests at heart by helping save me from temptation. I do appreciate it.

Hang in there Tom. All of your hard work in setting up gear deals will eventually pay off.

Tom – I know I’m preaching to the choir here, but readers don’t want deal links, they want good content – of which you have an abundance, my friend. Embed your links in articles. You’ll provide your readers with a more valuable and entertaining experience, and you’ll see an increase in your conversions.
