A newscaster favorite:<\/p>\n

  • “Today a child has gone missing<\/strong>,” or “The child went missing nine days ago.” Exactly how does one go missing?<\/li>\n
  • What about “free money<\/strong>“? Has someone ever paid for it?<\/li>\n
  • “It pulls at your heartstrings<\/strong>” – Not only a nauseating sentiment, but I don’t remember learning about those in my anatomy class.<\/li>\n
  • It’s “a crime of passion<\/strong>” when a woman kills a man, but a “brutal murder” when a man kills a woman…<\/li>\n

    Two for the banished list:<\/p>\n

  • “Genre<\/strong>” and “circa<\/strong>” for over-use in the media.<\/li>\n

    Some other things that irritate me:<\/p>\n

  • “For free<\/strong>” and “center around<\/strong>” – WRONG! It’s “free” and “center ON”!<\/li>\n
  • Regis Philbin’s famous, “I’m going to read you the question<\/strong>,” instead of “I’m going to read the question TO YOU.”<\/li>\n
