{"id":107,"date":"2004-03-24T19:01:33","date_gmt":"2004-03-25T00:01:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tommangan.net\/banned\/?p=107"},"modified":"2008-01-20T15:38:16","modified_gmt":"2008-01-20T23:38:16","slug":"fresh-peeves","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tommangan.net\/banned\/index.php\/2004\/03\/24\/fresh-peeves\/","title":{"rendered":"Fresh peeves"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From Deborah Williams:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I just found your site and would like to add &#8220;my two cents worth.&#8221; Several words and phrases that I hear daily annoy me, but these are my latest &#8220;pet peeves.&#8221;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>I have recently begun hearing newscasters state something like this, &#8220;The fire occurred at <strong>3 a.m. in the morning<\/strong>.&#8221;  I suppose &#8220;in the morning&#8221; is added so as not to be confused with 3 a.m. in the afternoon!<\/li>\n<li>Perhaps this has been included, but I was unable to find it. I often see the word &#8220;<strong>partnered<\/strong>&#8221; being used regularly. For example, I received a campaign brochure today from two local candidates for the school board (Lord, help us!) who claim, &#8220;Dan has partnered with Gary&#8230;&#8221; I never knew the noun partner was also a verb.<\/li>\n<li?i><strong>sick and tired<\/strong>.&#8221; Let&#8217;s revive the word &#8220;weary&#8221; instead.\n<li>Another redundant phrase often used by the current administration is &#8220;<strong>friends and allies<\/strong>.&#8221; Aren&#8217;t our allies by definition also our friends? Why must both words be used?<\/li>\n<\/li?i><\/ol>\n<p>These are but a few of my current language annoyances.
