Harris of Detroit,<br \/>\nMichigan, read the proceedings below and passed the following along:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I agree especially with the criticism of broadcast journalists<br \/>\nand would add that they should also be forever forbidden from asking<br \/>\ninane questions of crime or disaster victims. Does anyone really doubt<br \/>\nhow one feels when they have seen their home destroyed (totally destroyed<br \/>\nto the reporters) by fire, flood, tornado, etc. Or need they ask how<br \/>\nthe family of a murder victim feels?Many other words or phrases should be eliminated. Among them:<\/p>\n<li> &#8220;<strong>A real team player<\/strong>;&#8221; &#8220;<strong>Ready to hit the ground running<\/strong>;&#8221;<br \/>\na &#8220;<strong>self-starter<\/strong>;&#8221; and &#8220;<strong>There&#8217;s no &#8216;I&#8217; in &#8216;team<\/strong>&#8216;.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>We should also stop &#8220;<strong>doing lunch<\/strong>&#8221; and &#8220;<strong>taking meetings<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>As a retired police supervisor, I also have strong negative feelings<br \/>\nabout many cases of &#8220;<strong>cop-speak<\/strong>.&#8221; I once heard an arresting<br \/>\nofficer testify as follows:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;I observed a male subject exit a red colored vehicle and<br \/>\nproceed on foot in a westerly direction.&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Wouldn&#8217;t it be easier to see a man get out of a red car and walk<br \/>\nwest? A &#8220;red-colored&#8221; as opposed to a red-flavored or red-shaped?<br \/>\nA &#8220;westerly direction as opposed to a westerly size?<\/li>\n<p>Do we ever sound so stupid as when we try to sound smart?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>R.
