Obviously I couldn&#8217;t rely on feeling cold or shivering to warn me of approaching hypothermia, I didn&#8217;t remember feeling cold until after I started to warm up. And the temperature wasn&#8217;t that cold, probably above 30 F the entire time.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><P>Speaking of cold, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.andyhowell.info\/trek-blog\/?p=180\">Andy Howell tried tarping in the UK countryside<\/a> over the weekend.   &#8220;I was up early,a warming cup of tea downed and a pot of warm porridge and fruit eaten. Breaking camp was the most uncomfortable thing about the whole, cold night. It as bitterly cold packing. I started walking at almost running pace so desperate was I to get some feeling back into the fingers and toes that had frozen in the time it took to re-load the pack.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><P>A couple more backpacking links:  <a href=\"http:\/\/ultraliteskunkworks.blogspot.com\/2007\/04\/polarguard-delta-and-silk-sleeping-bag.html\">Ultra-light Skunk Works builds a sleeping bag. <\/a>   Lightbackpacking.com <a href=\"http:\/\/lightbackpacking.com\/2007\/03\/30\/head-to-the-ohlone-wilderness-in-no-calif-for-spring-backpacking\/\">checks out the Ohlone Trail,<\/a> of my favorite hiking haunts.<\/p>\n<p><P><br \/>\nSpeaking of hiking and camping for a long, long time: Walking the Wall has more bloggy goodness from the Great Wall of China, including a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.powerhousemuseum.com\/walkingthewall\/index.php\/2007\/04\/01\/guang-guang-shaanxi-province\/\">picture of the world&#8217;s cutest baby goat,<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.powerhousemuseum.com\/walkingthewall\/index.php\/2007\/03\/18\/qas-no-3\/\">Q&#038;A No. 3 <\/a>on how their walk is progressing.<br \/>\n<P>For those who missed it on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.asthecrowflies.org\/\">Crow<\/a>&#8216;s blog the other day:   Invisible Erik has pulled off an impressive feat of geekery: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.erikasorson.com\/pct\/pre-hike\/guide-maps-complete\/\">topo maps for the whole PTC,<\/a> minus the guidebook chitchat he considers pointless.<br \/>\n<P>For those who like beds and sheets, National Traveler points out <a href=\"http:\/\/nationalparkstraveler.typepad.com\/national_parks_traveler\/2007\/03\/lodging_special.html\">interesting lodging deals at the parks this summer. <\/a> Snag these while you can, they won&#8217;t last long.<br \/>\n<P><br \/>\nHopefully this <em>will<\/em> last long:  a new <a href=\"http:\/\/americanhiking.chattablogs.com\/archives\/047020.html\">wheelchair-accessible section of the Appalachian Trail <\/a>along the Osborne Tract in Tennessee.
