{"id":1385,"date":"2007-07-19T11:12:09","date_gmt":"2007-07-19T16:12:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tommangan.net\/twoheeldrive\/?p=1385"},"modified":"2008-01-28T07:30:13","modified_gmt":"2008-01-28T15:30:13","slug":"any-huntingtonshaver-lake-experts-out-there","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tommangan.net\/twoheeldrive\/index.php\/2007\/07\/19\/any-huntingtonshaver-lake-experts-out-there\/","title":{"rendered":"Any Huntington\/Shaver Lake experts out there?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tom Kotynski of Great Falls, Montana, retired newsman and active author of the  <a href=\"Outtherewithtom.blogspot.com\">Out There With Tom<\/a> blog, dropped me a note asking for recommendations for hikes and climbs around Shaver and Huntington Lakes. <\/p>\n<p>I haven&#8217;t visited these lakes but I&#8217;m guessing some of you have &#8212; if so, leave a comment. <\/p>\n<p><P><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theoutdoorforum.com\/California\/SierraNationalForestHikes.htm\">This page<\/a> suggests intriguing possibilities: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> College Rock: A steep 5-mile hike that offers a view of the Huntington Lake Basin.  The trailhead is at Huntington Lake.\n<\/li>\n<li>Kaiser Peak:  A 10-mile and 3,000 foot climb with a spectacular view from the Minarets Range to Kings Canyon National Park.  The trailhead is at Huntington Lake. <\/li>\n<li> Twin Lakes:  A steep 6-mile  trail offering views of the high sierras and Huntington Lake that passes fields of blue lupine. The trailhead is on Kaiser Pass Road, 1\/4 mile from Badger Flat Campground.\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I&#8217;m guessing the height of skeeter season will have passed by mid-August. <\/p>\n<p>EDIT: I posted this inquiry to the North_CA Hikers group.
