I went along on  their first of the season Saturday at Uvas Canyon County Park in Morgan Hill,  south of San Jose. The park is tucked way back in the east side of the Santa  Cruz Mountains; crowds are small, scenery is gorgeous, and at this time of year,  the rainwater is roaring down the hillsides. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/tommangan.net\/archives\/images\/2005\/01-15-05-uvascanyon\/uvas1.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"262\" border=\"1\">  <\/p>\n<p>This bridge is near the parking lot. The cool stuff is behind me. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/tommangan.net\/archives\/images\/2005\/01-15-05-uvascanyon\/uvas2.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" border=\"1\"><\/p>\n<p>Not exactly a waterfall, but a hint of things to come. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/tommangan.net\/archives\/images\/2005\/01-15-05-uvascanyon\/uvas3.jpg\" width=\"350\" height=\"296\" border=\"1\"><\/p>\n<p>Now <i>this<\/i> is a waterfall. Mike&#8217;s airing out a certain bodily region warmed  by the climb to this spot. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/tommangan.net\/archives\/images\/2005\/01-15-05-uvascanyon\/uvas4.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"400\" border=\"1\"><\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re daring enough you can clamber right up next to the falling water.  <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/tommangan.net\/archives\/images\/2005\/01-15-05-uvascanyon\/uvas5.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"260\" border=\"1\"><\/p>\n<p>Molly contemplates the scenery &#8230; please forgive the evidence of Photographic  Art &#8212; that is, having the foreground in focus and the background blurred. I  got the effect purely by accident, which makes it that much cooler in my book.  <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/tommangan.net\/archives\/images\/2005\/01-15-05-uvascanyon\/uvas6.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"258\" border=\"1\">  <\/p>\n<p>Yeah, yeah, people walking along the trail, waters rushing by. It&#8217;s only mundane  when you see it on a somebody&#8217;s web page; in real life &#8212; with all the sounds,  smells and other treats for the senses &#8212; it&#8217;s something else. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/tommangan.net\/archives\/images\/2005\/01-15-05-uvascanyon\/uvas7.jpg\" width=\"350\" height=\"291\" border=\"1\"><\/p>\n<p>Riffi instructs Molly on proper stream-crossing technique. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/tommangan.net\/archives\/images\/2005\/01-15-05-uvascanyon\/uvas8.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" border=\"1\">  <\/p>\n<p>Molly, Kathy, Riffi. Digital cameras <i>can<\/i> do cool stuff like creating  light outlines around people but I could&#8217;ve never gotten this effect in a million  years if I&#8217;d intended to. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/tommangan.net\/archives\/images\/2005\/01-15-05-uvascanyon\/uvas9.jpg\" width=\"238\" height=\"400\" border=\"1\">  <\/p>\n<p>Every hike produces yet another Cool Tree of California. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/tommangan.net\/archives\/images\/2005\/01-15-05-uvascanyon\/uvas10.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"264\" border=\"1\"><\/p>\n<p>The top of the trail overlooking the Santa Cruz Mountains. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/tommangan.net\/archives\/images\/2005\/01-15-05-uvascanyon\/uvas11.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"276\" border=\"1\"><\/p>\n<p>OK, so I had the flash turned off, which made the shutter do strange things  when I failed to hold the camera still. Today my accidental photography is coming  out better than the intentional stuff. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/tommangan.net\/archives\/images\/2005\/01-15-05-uvascanyon\/uvas12.jpg\" width=\"240\" height=\"400\" border=\"1\">  <\/p>\n<p>The final waterfall on today&#8217;s tour.
