The furor over BSP is mainly over evidence that it causes strange things to happen in lab rats &#8230; the chemicals industry insists humans are in the clear (despite our many ratlike qualities), but the industry kinda\/sorta has a vested interest in believing that.<\/p>\n<p>I rounded up some links to help y&#8217;all make up your minds:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2008\/04\/22\/health\/22well.html?8dpc=&#038;_r=1&#038;adxnnl=1&#038;oref=slogin&#038;adxnnlx=1208873407-J5gwshsD9ghjxsXFNfApxQ\">This New York Times article explains the basics.<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bisphenol_A\">Actual scientists may appreciate this Wikipedia entry on BSP.<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bisphenolafree.org\/\">The Bisphenol Free Portal includes an ABC News report from last year that offers a quickie intro.<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.salon.com\/tech\/htww\/2008\/04\/18\/nalgene_bisphenol_a\/\">This Salon.com post mentions the chemicals industry fact-blurring tactics and an intriguing parallel between the rise of BSP and the &#8220;obesity epidemic.&#8221; <\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.justinwp.com\/article_148.html\">Justin of My Outdoor Adventures mentions possible metal-bottle alternatives.<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thegreenguide.com\/docprint.mhtml?i=ask&#038;s=nalgene\">The Green Guide offers an informative overview of how BSP bottles degrade over time. <\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.backpackgeartest.org\/reviews\/Hydration%20Systems\/Bottles\/SIGG%20Bottles\/Owner%20Review%20by%20Richard%20Lyon\/\">Richard Lyon at Backpackgeartest.org likes SIGG aluminum bottles, mainly because they don&#8217;t change the flavor of his favorite drinks. <\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rei.com\/product\/734895?cm_mmc=cse_froogle-_-datafeed-_-product-_-na&#038;mr:trackingCode=A900C932-CF0F-DD11-AA92-001422107090&#038;mr:referralID=NA#ReviewHeader\">Many users at rei.com think Klean Kanteens are better than SIGGs, though some complain of a metallic taste. <\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>One thing I noticed about some plastic bottles I use regularly: I filled them with a Gatorade-clone sports drink, and I still taste vague hints of that drink in my water months later. Other bottles have imparted a taste that has made me wonder how much of the plastics are getting into my water. <\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll definitely be looking into the metal alternatives.
