I&#8217;ve been to Cowell&#8217;s Fall Creek Unit a couple times (hikes <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tommangan.net\/twoheeldrive\/index.php\/2007\/01\/14\/cold-like-january-creek-water\/\" title=\"Fall Creek Unit, cold like January Creek Water, January 2007\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tommangan.net\/twoheeldrive\/index.php\/2006\/09\/10\/a-creek-to-fall-for\/\" title=\"A creek to fall for, September 2006\">here<\/a> | Flickr pix <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/busybeingborn\/sets\/72157594480151676\/\">here<\/a>.) but haven&#8217;t gotten to the park&#8217;s main unit. <\/p>\n<p>Lots of of folks have posted Cowell-related linkage:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bahiker.com\/southbayhikes\/henrycowell.html\">BAHiker.com<\/a> has Cowell covered.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.redwoodhikes.com\/Cowell\/San%20Lorenzo.html\">Redwood Hikes <\/a>has great pictures and trail suggestions. (This is a great Web site; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.redwoodhikes.com\/Store\/home.html\">buy their maps<\/a> and help &#8217;em keep it up.)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.virtualparks.org\/maps\/maps-official.html\">Virtual Parks<\/a> has great maps (though you&#8217;d be well advised to just buy the same maps at the park because they&#8217;re too huge for squeezing onto standard printer paper). <\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.parks.ca.gov\/default.asp?page_id=546\">State of California&#8217;s<\/a> Henry Cowell page.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.santacruzstateparks.org\/parks\/henrycowell\/\">Santa Cruz State Parks page <\/a>notes the Zayante Indians once lived there.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/kevingong.com\/Hiking\/HenryCowell.html\">Kevin Gong<\/a> and his friends went splashing through the San Lorenzo River a few years back.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mountainparks.org\/henry.html\">Mountain Parks Foundation<\/a> lists activities (such as: Guided Tours of the Ancient Redwood Grove, 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays).<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Henry_Cowell_Redwoods_State_Park\">Wikipedia<\/a> also has it covered. Trivia: The highest points are far enough above sea level to support fairly unique chaparral communities known as &#8220;elfin forests&#8221;. <\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/flickr.com\/search\/?q=Henry+Cowell+Redwoods+State+Park\">Flickr pix<\/a>, 1,419 tagged to date. (The place is <a href=\"http:\/\/flickr.com\/photos\/gypsyflores\/318173520\/\">pretty in winter<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/henry-cowell-redwoods-state-park-felton\">Yelp reviews<\/a> give the down and dirty. Favorite quote: &#8220;i don&#8217;t know about you, but i absolutely cannot camp without beer.  i need to be drunk enough to psyche myself out into peeing into bushes, sleeping outdoors, dealing with spiders and spending concentrated amounts of time with nature.&#8221; Seems the rules about no alcohol in the campgrounds are strictly enforced.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Looks like the main attraction in the summer is wading\/swimming in the San Lorenzo River. Or, in my case, falling in.
