Outdoorness has been around since last summer; it’s packed with handy tips and gear reviews. A tidbit from its hiking page.

Store chemical hand warmers in a hard plastic container. If you pack them loosely, they might rub against something and accidentally activate, which means they won’t do their job when your hands are cold and when you really need them.

I hiked with a guy a couple weeks ago who was carrying those hand-warmer things. He put ’em in the pockets of his army jacket, which was soaked from hiking in misty rain for several hours. I guess it worked, but then again he seemed to be walking awfully fast on the way back to the car.
