Found a really fine site created by a guy whose base pack weighs less than 10 pounds. Onestep’s Ultralight Backpacking features two suggestions any of us can use right away without planning a hundred-mile slog through the woods: when it rains, break out your umbrella; at the shoe store, buy trail runners rather than hiking boots. I can vouch for the latter, I’ve been hiking in my trail-runners the past couple weeks and I’ve noticed an amazing difference in how easy it is to climb hills without those heavy ol’ leather boots on.
