I don’t know if everybody in the Bay Area’s getting the same idea at the same time, but hiking blogs around here seem to be popping up like mushrooms.

Airplane Journal has just one post so far, but it’s a very detailed account of a major-slog hike and holds great promise if its author can stay inspired. The first few are easy, it’s the next 3,000 that take some doing.

Far away on that other coast, a blogger trail-named Cutter plans to hike all the Southern peaks taller than 6,000 feet. He’s got the first peak bagged, so let’s hear it for ambition, eh? Cutter also linked to a thread about mental attitude for long-distance hiking, which led to another link to one guy’s philosophy about hiking and safety in the wilderness.
This guy, named Shane, had to evacuate from Louisiana with his familiy when Hurricane Katrina hit; he came back and found his home pretty much intact but his cat had expired. Check out that Katrina link for lots of interesting details about getting out, coming back and trying to get one’s life back in order after a major catastrophe. Then do some hiking to get it out of your head.
