Hiker Hell points to an incident so tragic it’s difficult to type in: A family climbs a section of Mount Blanc together. Mom takes a break, while dad and three siblings continue up the hill, all roped together. Dad falls, taking son and daughters down with him. All four perish. Mom watches the whole thing.

Speaking of Hiker Hell, the guy who writes it is one Brian Quines, who has written for the Orange County Register, run marathons and put in many impressive trail miles. His pics from Southern Idaho are very nice; he also went along on this Register photographer’s Mount Whitney summit. Nice to see he’s a real hiker; I still wonder how long he can last at tracking hiker tragedies (I thought of doing the same thing here but couldn’t talk myself into it), but his site is shaping up as a fine news resource.
