Searchers believe they’ve found the body of John Donovan, who disappeared on the Pacific Crest Trail last year and whose remaining gear at his campsite helped two lost hikers survive long enough to get help.
The discovery was made about 2:45 p.m. (Sunday) about 100 yards from the location of an abandoned campsite found last month by a Dallas couple who became separated from their tour group during a visit to the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, Zamora added.
And there’s this interesting (if morbid) detail:
Jim Manues of Corona, one of the 15 volunteers with the Riverside Mountain Rescue Unit on the ground and in the air, including two K-9 units, discovered the remains.
He said the body was seated on a log and appeared to be intact.
The mountain rescue unit’s web site has a brief post about the find; there might be more details in coming days, if you simply must know what it was like to find a corpse in the wilderness.
